The Semiotic Diaries
Readings of the Ordinary
Short semiotic readings of the ordinary — a painting, an object, a place. Each diary takes one everyday thing and shows how much meaning it quietly carries.
The journal
The season opens August 1, 2026 with a reading of Edward Hopper’s Office at Night.
New readings then appear weekly on Substack. Follow free for one reading each month; a paid subscription ($5/month · $50/year) opens the full weekly essays and the complete archive, and a Founding Member tier is there for readers who want to support the imprint directly. The essays range across painting and photography, the uncanny and the everyday, objects and places.
The first print volume (free for paid subscribers) gathers the opening season (about thirty pieces) and arrives early 2027, in the Phenomenon Books design.
